For the 2026/2027 Season onwards the FA have introduced some changes in the ball sizes to be used in different formats and different age groups. The use of size 3 balls across primary school groups has increased, up to and including Year 6, which aligns with 7v7 being extended to this age group. It is hoped this will make it easier for schools. A size 4 ball will be used at Year 7 and Year 8, where 9v9 is the maximum format. A size 5 ball will be introduced for 11v11 at Year 9.
